A show I LOVED

Anna Sui at MOD NYC

by Maryann Rees - Trendependent correspondent — Manhattan

I went to the MOD museum. (museum of design) in NYC toward the end of last year to see the Anna Sui retrospective. It was a fantastic show. I have always enjoyed her fashions and to see many of them up close was a visual treat. It spanned her career from 1991 through Spring 2019.

Even though she was born and raised in Detroit. Anna is a true New Yorker that stayed true to her own design aesthetic. She always blends together stories and beautiful printed fabrics that makes her fashion unmistakably Anna.

I remember dropping into her adorable boutique in Soho, with its purple and black theme running throughout the store. Her t-shirts always had wonderful illustrations on them that made me feel like it was the "swinging sixties". I also loved the sparkly hosiery and accessories.

The Museum of Design is a true gem of NYC. They run a lot of very visual exhibits there along with some very interesting talks. (Not to mention a well curated gift shop.) In fact, after the Anna Sui show...I became a member that same day!

For anyone visiting, or particularly if you are a native New Yorker...check out MOD's exhibits.
